The 2MR is a specially designed cartridge housing tailored for Rega turntables & tonearms. With its narrow cartridge housing, it seamlessly integrates without a need for spacers under the tonearm, enabling quick & easy mounting with just two screws !

The small headshot on the face of the Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 is immediately recognizable and the deserved namesake of this superb MM cartridge: Ludwig van Beethoven. Released in celebration of the anniversary of the composer's 250th birth, 2M Black LVB 250 draws from its renowned sibling, 2M Black, while boasting multiple performance and technical enhancements. Suffice it to say 2M Black LVB 250 takes music, sound, and details as seriously as the iconic composer.

Employing a nude Shibata diamond on a boron cantilever, the same combination as Ortofon's MC Cadenza Black, 2M Black LVB 250 delivers several instant benefits. Namely, owing to the stylus' slim, highly polished profile, it registers an extremely wide contact area to LP groove walls and ensures remarkable reproduction throughout the frequency spectrum. The addition of boron translates to stiffness while retaining a light weight, allowing for audiophile-grade levels of transparency, speed, and responsiveness.

New to 2M Black LVB 250 is the implementation of a rubber compound for the suspension, a trait that helps the cartridge attain optimal interaction between compliance and damping. Based on the Multi Wall Carbon Nano Tubes ( MWCNT ) nano filler, it offers desirable mechanical properties that which ensure superb damping.

Weighing in at 7.2 grams and sporting a compliance of 22 μm/mN to suit the vast majority of modern tonearms, the Danish-made 2M Black LVB 250 proves as compatible as it does ear-catching. And for existing Ortofon users, it offers seamless interchangeability with 2M Bronze and 2M Black.

"It has a sound that boasts rock-solid imaging, great stereo focus and depth, along with a smooth, lush view of strings and other acoustic instruments."

2MR Black LVB 250 - Beyond Amazing

The 2M Black is an amazing cartridge and by many considered the ultimate in moving magnet. So, why would we attempt to create something even better? Because perfection runs in our blood. The 2M Black LVB 250 upgrades the great build of the 2M Black with a boron cantilever and our very own Nano Tube suspension system. The result is a sound so precise and so detailed that you feel like you have let the artist into your house and have them playing right in your living room.

Features:
The 2MR Black LVB 250 uses a Nude Shibata diamond on a Boron cantilever, the combination known from the acclaimed MC Cadenza Black cartridge. The use of an extremely stiff and lightweight Boron cantilever adds remarkable transparency, speed and responsiveness. The Nude Shibata stylus’ slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the groove walls and ensures notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the highest frequencies.

The 2M/ 2MR  Black LVB was released to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven in December 2020.

2MR Mono Cartridge - Phono Cartridge Of Choice For 78 Rpm Shellac Records

Ortofon’s 2M 78 mono phono cartridge is the cartridge of choice for playback of 78 rpm shellac records.

This special version of the 2M 78 uses a low-profile design for convenient use with Rega turntables.

The 2M 78 uses a spherical diamond that is perfect for playback of 78 rpm shellac records, which require a larger stylus profile, and the improved engine provides a high level of sonic accuracy. The ‘strapped output’ deliver sthe same output signal from both sets of pole pins. This effectively eliminates the need for mono-specific equipment, making it possible to enjoy true mono reproduction on any stereo playback system.

"Sensational schellac!" raves Tony Bolton in his Hi-Fi World review, praising the 2M 78 for its “detailed sound," "low surface noise," "fast and punchy rhythms," and "excellent tracking at the recommended 1.8 g."

Why You Should Use A Mono Cartridge For 78 Rpm Mono Records

If you play a mono record with a stereo cartridge you will not achieve the same signal in the two channels due to imperfections such as crosstalk, noise, phase errors, tracking error, antiskating and distortion. This difference between the channels will result in an unstable and partially fuzzy image. A mono switch, to some extent, can improve this.

Playing the same record with a mono cartridge will have none of the aforementioned problems, as this cartridge only produces one signal, which afterwards is directed to both channels in the system. This will provide a much more forceful and stable image with a fuller sound.

Another significant advantage of using a mono cartridge to play mono records is the absence of response to vertical movement. This means that a mono cartridge is essentially impervious to the pinching effect, which comes into action when the stylus is pushed vertically upward in very narrow grooves. In addition, the response to dust, dirt and wear will be reduced substantially as the vertical component will not be heard. The final result will be a much more clean and noiseless reproduction of the mono record. These effects simply cannot be achieved merely by the use of a mono switch.
